I have friends who have lived in Alfe Menashe for YEARS... there was NOTHING there before these people built their community... NOW the "Palestinians" want the land?!?! Alfe Menashe is a 'gated community' so that the people there can live safely. so that they do not have to worry about their children being killed.

In his important book, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, Ilan Pappe relates how Qalqilya was targeted for capture and ethnic cleansing back in 1948 by the Zionist forces. Fortunately, they failed, but I believe Qalqilya is still in the gun sights of Israel's colonial expansion. Just look at all the illegal Israeli Jewish only settlements that surround the poor town.

The wall is completely illegal where it is built on Palestinian land. It is terrible that Israel has tied its own "security" to projects that ensure the Palestinians remain existentially insecure.

What is happening in Qalqilya and all over the Palestinian territories is an attempt at slow motion ethnic cleansing by economic and social strangulation.

Collective punishment is completely illegal under international law and Israel is in violation of many aspects of the Geneva conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human rights.

As terrible as the events of 1929 are, they are no justification for what is happening in 2007. Two wrongs do not make a right.

What happened in 1929 was a direct result of Jewish Zionist immigration supported by the British occupiers. This created tremendous anger and upheaval as Palestinians realized that they were on the verge of losing their land. And this is indeed what has happened. Hebron is part of what is supposed to be the Palestinian state. Israel has already taken 78% and more, despite the fact the U.N. Mandate only gave them about 52%. Today, Israel continues to take steal even more land.

If you don't support a Palestinian state, then be prepared for a bi-national state that loses its Jewish majority.

What is happening in Hebron today is a disgrace and violation of humanity.

Finally, in no way is my country perfect, having just destroyed the country of Iraq and taking actions that are destabilizing the entire region. However, my country is also supporting Israel's illegal actions and my tax dollars are supporting Israel's occupation of Palestine. Unfortunately, this makes it my business as well and my duty to oppose what Israel and the United States are doing.

Shopkeepers in the Palestinian town of Baqa al-Sharqiya sell their produce outside their destroyed shops, which were demolished by the Israeli military. Supposedly, Israel's Apartheid wall has now been built through this area. (2003)
