It looks like the old helipad at Ertsberg Mine before it was a mine, actually. It's interesting to see two choppers at that location. The photo is not mapped correctly. Later I'll come back with proper coordinates.
This is a very signficant photo because it is shot from Grasberg Mountain (now a huge open pit mine and no longer a mountain) toward Ertsberg hill (which is also now a mined out open pit, albeit much smaller than Grasberg). The photo predates both mines, which puts it at sometime prior to 1971. Unfortunately the location is slightly wrong. The correct coordinates of the photo location (where the camera was located) is approximately S4.06061 E137.11794 and is looking SSE. The photo is a very rare view and might be from Forbes Wilson's or Del Flint's collection. There's a book called "Conquest of Copper Mountain" by Forbes Wilson published by Freeport Minerals Corporation in about 1980 that also contains interesting historical photos and the story in the book is an absolutely thrilling read. Used copies of the book are available on Amazon from time to time. Also see the pre WWII book by Coljin and the paper by JJ Dozy dated 1939. - Paul Warren / December 2010
Hi andre77, these photos are great, of Carstenz meadow before the Ertsberg was mined. However, they are placed at too low an altitude on Google earth, now there is just a small lake in the hole that was the Ertsberg at:

If this was taken at the original Ertsberg Mine then the correct lat long coordinates would be more like 4° 4'36.04"S / 137° 7'25.26"E.
