Never say NEVER Managuense, you are incorrect in your statement, it is know to some of us as an extention to CAR.SUR hence AKA Carr. Sur, As the water plant is called KM 5 of that same highway as well as the mental ward next to it, where some folks commenting should be!

This article is extremely good, historically accurate, and very well documented. At the same time, it makes justice to General Sandino in his fight against foreign intervention.

Now, Sandino was kidnapped in Managua's Downtown right on del Comercio Avenue by Somoza's National Guard right after signing a peace treaty with President Juan B. Sacasa instigated by US Ambassador Henry L. Stinson and killed in Chico Pelón Hill, 2km east of Downtown.

Apparently, though, the GN removed his remains in the early 70's to prevent human rights organizations from finding his body and using it as proof against the Somoza regime.

Now, I would not recomend anybody to go to Wikipedia because their article is misleading about who Sandino really was, what he meant, what he did for Nicaragua, and what he represents in the fight for freedom and democracy against foreign oppression and abuse.

Wikipedia does not mention that Sandino's Army was actually the first to defeat a US occupying force in America (Western Hemisphere) either; which is why the Marines left Nicaragua in 1934 but not before having Sandino assesinated in compliance with local traitors like then President Juan B Sacasa, Anastasio Somoza-García and the infamous, US-created National Guard.

Therefore, I would definitely recommend anybody to read "History of Nicaragua" by Jorge E. Arellano for a serious and reliably description of the facts surrounding Sandino's life, fight, legacy and historical contribution.

Drain at Apanas Lake, Jinotega, Nicaragua. This drain prevents the lake from overflowing, directing the excess water straight into the Tuma River, downhill, through underground tubes.

A beautiful place, yet strange and extremely remote for I had never heard of it before... I wonder if this island has tourist facilities for judging by its roughed outlook it would be nice to spend some time there.
