This is Gibbet Hill. The square plaque visible at the highest point says that there was a gallows located where the plaque sits now. Criminals would be hung on the gallows (gibbet) and then left there for several days as a reminder to other would be offenders. The bodies would then be thrown into Deadman's Pond on the other side of the road. It also gives the timeframe for when the gibbet was in use. I believe it was in the 1800s.There is a walking trail with stairs leading up to the plaque starting from near the entrance of the Interpretation Center parking lot.
