I used to work as a geologist for the NCB (Barnsley Area) during the late 70s and memorably I made one site-visit trip to this locale on a pleasant summer's day. I couldn't believe the contrast to where I worked; my office window had a panoramic view of Grimethorpe power station and the mine-tailings. Barnburgh was like another planet, magical.

This little copse is where St. Helen's chapel once stood. It was a little medieval church belonging one of the big Barnbrough families (Cressacre?). There are no remains left, it has long since vanished.
