Thanks! Those are mounds built for waterfowl nests. When those reservoirs have water in them, the coyotes and other predators can't get to the goose and duck nests. There are several places in the area with these projects, which were built in the 80s and 90s under the auspices of the forest service and the fish and wildlife service. Nothing untoward going on, just mounds of dirt with eggs on top.

This lake isn't polluted. It's simply a high-desert shallow lake with the usual murky water.
