Your father must have been working in the British or in the US Army, the Allied Forces were allowed to move freely in East Berlin. If some german citizien would have taken this picture he would have gone into trouble with Stasi.

The left side downstairs was the old Garden City Post Office. This building was, I think, the office of the Mays Lumber Company.

You must have worked on the bridge erection in 1977 and not 1978 as i overflew the bridge on the 22 March 1977 aboard a Canadian Forces CP 107 Argus aircraft from 407 Squadron in Comox B.C. during a NORPAT (Northern Patrol) and the bridge was already fully erected. We made 3 low passes taking photos of it.

I have a picture where we are on top of the bridge with our aircraft's shadow visible on the ground.
