It is hard to find the beginning of the trail, because of the road reconstruction. If you find it, go to the second fall (higher on the river), after swimming in the basin go down the river to the first fall, than go back to the trail.
Along the hike to the Boiling lake you pass through The Valley Of Desolation. Smouldering sulfur pots, not much of anything growing. Trail guide is a must as the crust you are walking on through this area is very thin, with extremely hot water underneath. Mineral pools along the way take on the hues of the chemicals they are leaching,oranges, yellows, blues and greenish.
