Don, yes. Photobatix does aggravate the noise. You have to shoot at as low an ISO as possible, I usually use 100. Photomatix also has a smoothing function which helps a bit, but isn't really all that great. I do rely heavily on yet another piece of software called NeatImage to smooth out the noise that shows up sometimes even at ISO 100. To get a nice HDR you have to get a pretty decent exposure on the dark areas. Don't tell my wife how much I've spent on software. Ahem... or lenses for that matter! ;-)
