Adam Schermuly's conversations

We learned to swim in the lakes around Lakeland and Auburndale. There was a place we called Max Beach where we launched ski boats. There was awful green seaweed stuff that would wrap around your feet. There were huge moccasins that swam near and around you which scared us pretty good. In fact my sister(who was petrified of snakes)and I were swimming in Chrystal Springs when one swam between us...and then another larger one swam right up to us and my sister was screaming and splashing her arms to get it to go away...but that just made it come straight to her, and then it turned away. We never got bitten by anything in the water...but we knew they were there. The lake in the middle of town (in Lakeland) held basking gators that would come right onto the busy street and nobody bothered them...and they never bothered anybody either. We were taught to respect all things...and we did. I love and miss my childhood...gators and all!
