Your're right, this bridge has been out of service for some time. There is another historic bridge, also out of service, on Scott River Road just up from Highway 96. Early 1900s (1905??). A shorter, old bridge near Quartz Valley was just removed and replaced this past fall. There are probably some older ones in the southwest part of the county, but I'm not familiar enough with the area to know for sure. Good luck.

I missed the date. 1901. There is talk of replacing it - that is building a new bridge next to this one. Serious load restrictions prevent fire engines from crossing it.

Just added a shot of the Shelley Bridge over the Shasta River. It was built in 1899 and still has a wooden deck. I don't know how long it has been out of service, but appears to have been for quite some time.
