epicanis's conversations

I actually haven't seen it since it was trashed by Ike - at the time I took the picture it connected the floating boat dock to the shore so I thought of it as a "bridge". You're right though - I've seen people fishing off of it.

Ah, thanks, I was wondering. It just caught my eye because I saw the construction and it occurred to me that while the PLACE would still be there for a long time, it was not going to look completely different not too long after this time.

I mainly took the picture as an illustration of why geolocation should include a timestamp...

Yeah, but go back up river about a mile and see what the Friends of the LA River, and other people, have caused to happen... they got the Army Corps of Engineers to STOP bulldozing out organic matter and it's now an amazing refuge for animals, a riparian stopover for travelling birds and animals... blue herons, tall cranes, black ducks, ... there's coyotes, crayfish, lots of fish small and large, frogs, trees, ...

The structures aren't actually deformed - this is apparently just what parallax does to a panorama-stitcher when you move between taking the photos you're trying to stitch together...

We'll have to try to get back up there again sometime - we were trying to get up to the mine.

Ah, thanks! It's been many years since I lived in the area, but Sugar Bowl used to be my favorite ski resort out there. I hadn't realized they'd built a lift between the parking and the rest of the resort.

I have begun to realize what has been bugging me about everywhere in the Western U.S. where I've been living for the last couple of decades - and incidentally why I like snow. Brown. Everything is freakin' brown. The dead grass is brown. The sand is brown. The trees dying of drought are brown. The air is brown from dust and smoke. Even the live sagebrush isn't so much green as greenish-greyish brown. It's like I'm living in a real-world projection of the first "Quake" game. The snow at least provides some relief from the unrelenting brown. (Not here in Albuquerque, though). Incidentally, this is taken from the onramp where our distributor broken and killed our engine as we were trying to leave. It's a conspiracy.

Ah, that did the trick. Since "password@panoramio.com" hasn't responded, posting the comment as "epicanis2" got me the email notice that a comment was sent and I was able to tell which less-commonly-used email address I needed to log in under... We now return your to your regularly scheduled photos. A few may also be found over at the "epicanis2" account that I used in the meantime...
