Thanks, Faintlightofdawn. The sun came out from between the clouds. I noticed that the light was perfect - reflecting into the bar from the appartments on the other side of the road - and had time to bang off half a dozen shots, of which this was the best. Then the sun went in again. The weather so far this year on the Costa Banca has been generally awful.

Were there any sand worms lurking nearby or had you drawn them off with a thumper?

"Move along now, Sir. Nothing to see here for you bohemnian types with your funny comments"
Though I would point out the fabulous bramble hedge bounding the vineyard, which keeps us in blackberry and apple pie and blackberry jam all year round via the crafty use of a chest freezer.

johnathanpolkestsaid: A truly inspiring prospect!
It is in the summer. In the winter things can be different. Bar Tango is very exposed often takes serious damage during winter storms. Stand at the top of the steps and you'd likely get a wave tossed cricket ball sized rock in the mouth.

'Sardines a la plancha' is the thing to have at Bar Tango. You'll get a better paella from the restaurant (I've forgotten its name) which overlooks the top end of Playa Grava near to the fish processing plant in the port.

The title 'Small dog on a hot tin roof' is for artistic purposes only. A more correct title would be 'Small dog on a hot asbestos roof of a lean to of a house whose exact location I've forgotten' Pin position is very approximate.

Thanks, Beatrice. 2009 was very bad for tourism and retail in Spain. The Costa Blanca was particularly badly hit. Hopefully things will pick up a bit this year. If you want to open a shop - now is the time! Plenty of properties to rent or buy available! The Arenal seems to be the worst area as it is TOTALLY reliant on tourism in the summer months. Javea old town and port have a level of all year round trade from the resident population. The Arenal during the winter is dead, dead, dead...

Thank you. I'm often in the countryside but I never seem to get this sort of shot ;-)
