The scale is a lot smaller than that. The footprints are normal size, and the structure in the center is an old and very decrepit marine engine. It's a neat feature of this beach because at different seasons it's either completely visible, as it is here, or it's completely covered by sand.

...and I imagine that ten minutes after taking this you were overdosing on kaiserschmarrn and lager. I've always thought it very civilised that German and Austrian youth hostels sell beer. The UK versions are far more austere and teetotal.

Evocative for me. I'm sure this is the bush I used to stare out of the window at on quiet days when I used to work at the GH pub in the 70s! Apart from that, a nicely structured shot. Best, Andy

One of the things I learned in my brief foray into multi-exposure HDR/tonemapping is that the shadow areas often need a different color balance than the sunlight ones. This isn't bad, but it is still clearly visible that the light is different in the shadows. I never found a solution I was 100% satisfied with.

I'll take your word for it! As an occasional visitor to Hay I never ventured inside, being struck only by the forbidding And decrepit exterior. It did look like the sort of place where there would be an 'Old George' permanently welded to his seat in the corner, who would give 'furriners' dirty looks if they dared to step inside.
