This picture looks backwords to me. It looks like it is actually looking North from the standard route, rather than looking, as it does in the photo, to be looking off the main route to the right, or South.
This brings back memories of a walking tour in the Pyrenees in the mid 90s. I had camped near Lac Vert and followed this route to the refugio. I stopped briefly in the refugio before exploring the Cirque des Crabioules. Perhaps you have already seen my photos; if not, they will soon appear in Google Earth.
