The top of Mount Umunhum (and the remnants of the Almaden Air Force Station) belongs to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. The area is currently off limits to the public due to access and hazardous materials issues.
The District has received money from the federal government and cleanup of hazardous materials will be starting soon.
