You are quite right, in Holland we would call this a 'stoep' (pronounced same as stoop) this picture proves to me that all mothers are created equal, and all are equally dear. What strikes me about this photo is she decided to stand in the most dangerous part of the stoep for this portrait and I'm wondering whether this tells us something about her personality.

I did look at the other similar photograph, and I like this one more because of the gesture of the woman you have centered on. She seems to have such concern from the sad event.
