A beatiful picture, with Polish soldiers cemetery to the left. So many of them died there just to open the road to Rome for US Army in 1944.

When I was there exactly 30 years ago I was told by local monks that "Polish soldiers destroyed their monastery".

That it was while taking it from Nazi SS troops who blocked the road to Rome for US Army in 1944 was an 'omerta'.

Just like the fact that Roman Catholic church in in Italy was harboring Nazis even in the '50s.
