My name is Hanna Astephan. The name hessdalen reflects my deep interest in the mysterious lights phenomenon of the Hessdalen Valley -- Norway. http://www.hessdalen.org/ About Photography: Camera mainly used: 1- NIKON D 3000 Single Lens Reflex Digital. (Semi Full Frame). Image sensor size & type = 23.6 x 15.8 mm CCD, 10.2 Mega Pixels, Aspect ratio = 3:2 (Cinema format). Lenses for the NIKON used: A - Standard 18 – 55 mm focal length Lens with Vibration Reduction feature, that means there is no dancing Image sensor in the camera body, but fixed. B - Telephoto Zoom 55 - 200 mm focal length Lens with Extra Low Disparsion feature to eliminate color (Purple / Green) fringing or Chromatic Abbiration, therefore sharper images. 2- A second Camera is also used the FUJIFILM FinePix HS25EXR with superb image quality. Optical Filters: Hoya (Japan) 52 mm UV filter. Osawa (Japan) 52 mm Polarizing filter to reduce reflections. Toko (Japan) 52 mm 8 point cross filter for special effects. My settings: Image quality & size: Although the camera can shoot in RAW format, but I use the JPEG Fine, then resize the image down to 1500 x 1000 for Panoramio. Exposure: A- Metering method (in most cases) is set to Matrix. B- Active Day lighting (in most cases) is set to Off. C- Exposure compensator (in most cases) is set to ( 0 ). ISO sensetivity settings: The lowest value is best (ISO 100) for noise free images (Day light photography). Shooting with telephoto lens requires a higher value (ISO 400 or more) as a result faster shutter speeds to compensate for camera shake. So the accepted rule to me is that better to have a razor sharp images with some noise than to have blur images with no noise at all. Color space: set to standerd RGB. Noise reduction is set to ON. Camera position on the map starting from March 2012 will be GPS accurecy. Additional notes: I never use the flash, try not to use the camera with Auto setting as to be in full control. Some of my photos are are NOT up to standard, yet they are in my collection for thier subject value.
