I haven't logged into Panoramio for a long time and they never send me comment alerts. Sorry for the delay. It's an easy 20 walk. 2wd will work but you need some decent clearance. I made it in a stock Wrangler.
Was in this area 3 weeks ago then noticed your pictures on Google Earth.
Hoping you can answer a question or two for me.
Were you able to get from Dripping Springs Road all the way up to Doak (or Doke)?
Any locked gates?
I realize it's been over 4 years but for sentimental reasons would like to explore the area more.
My stepfather's grandfather was a wrangler and brought horses and cattle from Reserve, NM over to both Doke and Pioneer, AZ and supplies to both Lucky Boy and Bobtail mining areas.
My stepfather is a little fuzzy on details but he's sure they traveled the Gila River routes and did not come over the Pinal mountains from Globe.
If you have any info could you please contact me at: ttsfabworks@cox.net
I have seen this same construction many times before. It is built into the side of the earth and has very large beam construction. Some have been wrapped(nailed) with tin to keep moisture in.
This is storage for mining explosives.
I was there April, 2013 and it looks exactly like a swimming pool to me, what with the plaster and decorative rocks and all. The water supply from the well to the North of the site is/was ample.
great photos of what looks like a great day. love all of Arizona but am drawn to her off hiway rivers and creeks, Wondering if youve explored West Clear Creek? if you have lets keep it our secret if you havent try Forest road 142D above Clintswell .My favorit spot in all of AZ
We were stopped dead in our tracks. It would take two people half a day to clear ramps into and out of the wash. Unfortunately, this is the only road to the heart of the mining complex.
I sent away to the US Army for info on this fort. Their response was basically, "Who knows? There were countless outposts set up along rivers and in the mountains."
It was, however, confirmed that it was an outpost attached to Fort Whipple.

The sunsets from this spot are top notch! Back in the day, those owners had a very nice view! Thanks for the picture uploads!
