@LuciaM most of them are - indeed. Even closes like 3 pictures ahead are painted. As far as i know it has become an important thing for visitors over the last centuries. Before digital painters came in and catched the colors in paintings. But that has happened at least 100 years ago.

The thing what Burano is well known for is called "Spitze" ... lace-making?

But most of the Burano lace is buyed in far east. The rarely handmade pieces are pretty expensive and do cost some hundred Euro for a small tea cloth.

Nothing for Doris and Max ;)

This little shop takes advantage of every square inch of space allotted to it! And even on a cloudy day, it manages to be colorful!

My photo of this building was used this week in a presentation by the Municipal Arts Society of New York City of a group of buildings to be newly designated as historical Landmarks here.

ahoi...

These were the days of the so-called Robber Barons. They made a lot of money in real life and wanted to go to their eternal rest in a building bigger than their competition! Some are even large enough to have small altars in them.

In this particular case, this mausoleum belonged to the Armour family. They were famous for the production and sale of Spam. Not the internet spam that we know and hate, but rather a processed meat product sold in cans. The pink color of the tomb is rumored to be the color of their product.

Even more amazingly, this mausoleum was designed by James Renwick Jr., better known for his spectacular design of St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC! Other of these tombs were also designed by famous architects.

If you would like to be even more appalled and have Google Earth installed, take a look of my tour of Woodlawn Cemetery, where all of these mausoleums are.
