Hi froter,

Thanks for visiting my album and taking the time to comment. I wish that I had taken more photographs of Baltimore when I was down there. Because it was loooooong before the advent of digital cameras, getting film developed was too expensive to do very often on a student budget.

In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York assumed responsibility for the processing and identification of thousands of human remains recovered at the WTC site. Because of the nature of the event, DNA testing had to be performed in almost all of the cases. Eventually, approximately 1,650 of the 2,751 victims were identified and any related remains were returned to their families. Approximately 14,000 remains could not be identified, many because they did not contain adequate amounts of undamaged DNA which could be tested under current methodologies.

Because of space limitations at the OCME's facilities, the unidentified remains were stored in climate controlled containers in a lot at the end of East 30th Street. The location became a gathering place for families whose loved ones had not yet been identified. In 2002, a more substantial structure was erected on the lot, which included a private chapel solely for the use of family members. The unidentified remains, kept in a separate part of the structure, were subsequently dehydrated for better preservation. The plan is to eventually move them to a future memorial at Ground Zero. It is the hope of the OCME office that advancements in DNA evaluation technology will eventually allow for more positive identifications.

Remains of four of the terrorist hijackers have also been identified; they are stored elsewhere, as evidence for any future criminal proceeding.

Also in the photo is the East River Science Park, a turnkey facility for basic life science research built by a private corporation, in collaboration with NYC. Opened in 2009, its intent is to provide laboratory and office space to research start-ups (among others) which, because of cost, would otherwise be unable to develop such space on their own.

God Bless the Jews all over the World, and shame on the U.S. Government and some fools that chastise the only place on earth ( ISRAEL) for just existing. My, My, how people really hate the Jewish people. Jesus forgive them. As for me, I will always stand with my friend, the Jew. Always. LOVE. P.S. Thank You Lucia for all your lovely photographs. You are very talented, gifted.
