This home exists in an unincorporated community that bears my username, bluecreek. It is located on Blue Creek road where I grew up. The home is owned by Davis Stoutamire who lives a few hundred yards away. The home is still in livable condition. For approximately 10 years the Fletcher family, in-laws of Mr. Davis, lived in the home. Water was not a problem for this estate, nor were/are termites. The raised foundation is common amongst 'florida cracker' homes due the ventilation effect it provided. You will also notice the unusually high-pitched roof, which allowed an escape for hot air. In combination, it provided a comfortable home in a hot humid environment in days prior to central heating/air. Not too bad for 'Southern Rednecks'. Simple, Ingenious, Effective. (please notice this home is not a trailer Mr. guyfromsi)
This home was built by my Great-Great Grandfather. At its height, this home served as the hub of a large farm, that at least six families made a living working on. One of his sons was named Lucius Johnson, who is my Great Grandfather. I have dozens of pictures of this home in my own collection. My Mother and Grandmother were able to go inside a few years ago with the current owner, a Mr. Land. I think there is a conflict over current ownership. Inside the home, the stairway has collapsed and no longer exists. The back extension of the home houses a kitchen and dining room. 90% of the home has a deep wrap-around porch. I would love to purchase and reclaim this home for my family. It is mostly used for storage and falls further into disrepair. Despite appearances, I am confident it is reasonably salvageable in it current state.
I grew up in this house. It was white and blue when my parents bought it and we restored it to how it looks today. That house was actually built in around 1870. It actually was owned by the church...located next door when we bought it. It was the pastors home. If you want to see some other great Victorians, search McIntosh Fl, just a little north of Orange lake. There are some HUGE Victorians there.
