Ken Badgley's conversations

Hi Ken. I just love this photo. I was wondering if I could talk you into letting me use it on my blog. I grew up 5 acres away from the forest, and I'm terrible with cameras and don't have any photos. I'm a published poet, and the site will basically just be information about me and where my work can be found. A picture that captures the spirit of where I'm from like this would be perfect. I'd happily credit you of course. You can contact me at davidtuvell over at mail of the g. Thanks, hope to hear from you before they shut this site down!

Hi Ken,

I'm a volunteer with a community group called "Protect Monterey County". We are sponsoring a citizens' initiatve (Measure Z) to stop fracking and wastewater injection which endanger the groundwater in Monterey County. Our initiative is on the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot.

We are creating a brochure and looking for great photos of the area that we are protecting. I was wondering if we can get permission from you to use your beautiful photo (Pacific sunset, Highland Inn, Carmel Highlands) in a campaign brochure to stop fracking and other dangerous oil drilling? The Oil Industry is spending millions of dollars to defeat Measure Z.

Our Measure Z web site is if you'd like more info.

We would be willing to pay you a modest fee for permission to use your photo. Please contact me at

Thank You! Mary

Hello Ken Badgley. Nice photos of these cracker jack boxes. I have never heard the term "single pen" or "cracker house". I did some research online and I learned something new today. Greetings from Joe in Virginia.

I remember going down to st. Petersburg Pier and have a picture of me on the Bounty it was really nice back then h

I would definitely bank there!

Well said Sam and Ken. I visited a plantation in SC where they actually listed the slaves names, at least the ones they knew of. The tour guides didn't realize the importance of this so I made mention of its significance after they had initially walked right past it on the tour. We all went back and read it... There was even some sobbing. I hope they still make note of the slave names and credit their back breaking free labor/frequent abuse on future tours but it's doubtful. Felt as if they were giving me lip service as most dolts just don't care and the state isn't exactly proud of its darkest chapter. The whole subject of what slaves endured was skimmed over.

My Aunt's fiancee is in RdJ, Brazil now as an Olympic photog. He'd love this area. I absolutely adore the Cross detail on the light fixture--beauty in B&W.

Agreed! Postcard quality.

I just saw this now... We're looking forward to driving past and admiring this beautiful home and the restoration efforts which have been done since this last post of Ken's in 2012. Bless all of you preservationists! It's been tough moving here from Chicago and having to seek out beautiful vintage architecture which we were able to take as a matter of course in Chicago!! WE NEED MORE ACTIVE PRESERVATIONISTS IN FL. The masses are so into having everything new here, sadly, even here in the Clearwater/Safety Harbor/Dunedin areas!! Vintage, well-preserved homes and edifices are few and far between... It doesn't make sense.

I'm so happy to hear it's being preserved!! Love your photos.
