John Naylor's conversations

Parkgate was a port in mediaeval times and then, until the 1940s, a resort. Its beach has long since silted and now the marshes are a haven for birds, a hunting ground for wildfowlers, and (when the red flags fly) a military shooting range.

Using a telephoto lens combines with the rising ground behind the terrace to cause this effect. The huge building is a set of tower blocks in St Anne's Street, probably of the '60s and recently refurbished. The tower with the masts is of similar age - an office near the station now an hotel.

Deva Terrace, however, changes very little, although everyone has bought patio umbrellas this year.

J'ai été baptisée dans cette église... :-)

It is amazing place ! thanx for posting this photo

Thanks for the comment. There's nostalgia and there's false nostalgia; actually I've never seen a chemist/wine merchant before. But I lived opposite one that sold beautiful ice cream. Best wishes, John

This is reputed to be the longest asymmetric cable-stayed bridge in the country. The perspective shrinks it among the pylons.

Looking south, Winter 2011. The wall of massive stones protects the Holyhead railway, under threat along this stretch if sea levels rise.

The "beach" is not up to much, but there's a stretch of millions and millions of shells. Winter 2011.
