I could be wrong but I think that they are looking at the Spasm Geyser or the Clepsydra Geyser near the Fountain Paint Pot?

The lighthouse was built by the private lease-holder for Hat Island / Artok, Ernie Reid, some time in the 1960s. He had a small bungalow for weekend trips on the island - which is indeed now a World Heritage Site, known as Chief Roi Mata's Domain. I have some ground pics of and from the lighthouse if you want them - it offers a great view fo Efate and the other islands. The structure itself is in disarray and hasn't functioned since the 1970s.

Despite the words on the marker, Custer's body was found at the top of the hill near the monument. He was buried for a year in the shallow grave where this marker stands. His remains were then taken to the cemetery at West Point.
