Conrad - this beach is known as DIAZ BEACH, named after the Portuguese mariner-explorer BARTHOLOMEU DIAZ who planted a stone cross in the area in 1488 commemorating his voyage around the Cape of Storms at Cape Point (which would be just behind you in this photograph).
GENERAL INFO: There are some terrific walks/hikes in this area all along the cliffs and sea, and there is some beautiful wild "fynbos" to be seen growing here too with lots to keep bird-lovers happy! A great area for picnics, (but for preservation purposes, DON'T feed the local baboon troop if they make an appearance, please!!)
