Historical - major renovations carried out in the 2000s

This ruin is 100m west of the top gate on the Waikaia Bush Road. Built in March 1871, the shed was rebuilt in February 1898 following the death nearby in a snow storm of William Gunn, a local packer. Rebuilt again in February 1932 to protect miners working at Potters during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The existing iron shed nearer the turnoff to Potters was built at the same time.

I was hoping you or some one else had a corresponding photo of the dam spilling to match the Clyde bridge.

Cheers.

That is just jaw dropping, knowing how high that bridge normally is from the river.

Thanks for sharing.

Pete

Taken 29.9.92. The lake was filled in stages to facilitate monitoring of the stability of the sides of the gorge. This photo was taken just before the final top-up. The log boom spanning the lake is to intercept floating debris. New amenity areas are at left.

The Central Otago Rail Trail during a 10-day Deep Freeze

Taken 19.4.92, just before lakefill began. The work sites have been cleared and water allowed to seep through the coffer dam into the worksite immediately to the left of the dam. The orchards once on the terrace at upper left have been removed. These and the dirt road running into the distance would be under water. The sealed road at extreme left was built to serve the new amenity areas.
