I am from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I like to hike and ride the bicycle and take photos on the way. The ones that are not too bad and give an impression of the area I post on Panoramio. I like to receive comments and more information about the places.

The Little River Trail in the Smoky Mountains starts at the Elkmont camping ground. Near some old vacation homes form the 1920. Most of these are in a bad state of repair because they are not being used since the late 1930’s when the National park was established. The trail goes over a gravel path that follows the Little River. Originally this was a tail road track the lumber company used to carry the tree trunks away. After 2,4 miles the Cucumber Gap Trail enters the Little River Trail. It goes through the trees covered mountains back to Elkmont. This trail is much narrower and the first part is full of tree roots but not bad to walk on.

Unusual and very interesting sculpture! Like

We left Melbourne after much planning, in our Camper (Zoe 89) to travel down the Gibb River Road from the Pentecost River End. We did this in July 1997, two weeks after the road was offically opened. We spent over 3 weeks on it, and that was not long enough .. we were running out cooking gas. This area was one of the most wonderful trips we have done. So many camping spots along the way. Gorges and scenery was beyond belief !! We did not need 4wd .. and only missed a couple of spots because of. The road gets parts of it graded .. this causes very sharp pieces of rock to appear .. so do not speed, watch the surface, and don't have "fatty" tyres on, damaged is done to the side walls. My slow walk into the Manning Gorge was something precious. If you have the chance of doing this road, don't miss it. The road conditions change from year to year .. so check it out well. The season gets very hectic .. mainly because of some "mad" 4wdrivers and the speed they travel. I wish you well on your trip.
