Yes, that's about the right place Rob.. I took a photo of this place in May 2004 (placed on the South West side of the lodge)and the roof was just about intact then. It interested me because it's so isolated, and I was trying to work out how they got the slates (they're Welsh Blue slates, as far as I can see) to the place. Even with the railway a few miles away, it would have been a heck of a task with a horse and cart. Anyway, hope things have settled down there now - my wife lived in NZ for a few years, in Thames, North Island.
Well - Castle Hill is wonderful place and thanks to varying season and lighting conditions you can make more amazing shots from same angle in different time!
I hope I make you happy also with some shots from Bob's cove at Lake Wakatipu area: :-)
Thanks for that info BigMac70, I had no idea about it's origin, but I have often admired the ruins, and have photographed it several times in various seasons. Like you I had several wonderful holidays in the amazing region. I am very familiar with the Hallenstein's name, and a distant ancestor of mine is the Bob Fortune of Bob's Peak, Queenstown, and Bob's Cove on Lake Wakatipu.

Very nice area. And you did the shot from nearly the same position like me 2001
This should be in the general Bendigo ruins area. I know that GE was just a blur in 2009. Cheers, scott.
