One of several overlooks at Sprewell's Bluff State Park that gives a magnificent view of the river valley. Sprewell's Bluff is named for Jeptha Sprewell, who lived here sometime before 1850. The Flint River. Upson County, GA.

This 16.4 mile line railroad was completed in October of 1857. The average speed of the railroad in the late 1850's was 12 miles per hour. Upon completion in 1857 the line cost about $124,000.

Old slave house.
Twelve miles south of Thomaston, is the only remaining covered bridge in Upson County, Georgia. It was built in 1895 by Dr. J.W. Herring, a physician of considerable engineering ability who constructed similar bridges throughout the area. The bridge spans Auchumpkee Creek and is built of heavy timber and cross beams held in place by wooden pegs.
