Winter's view from Dowdell's Knob overlooking the Pine Mountain Valley ~ Elevation 1395 feet above sea level. The knob was named for two pioneer settlers, Lewis and James Dowdell of Virginia ancestry who settled here in 1828. Pine Mountain is on the Southern-most edge of the Appalachian Mountain Range.
