The thatched building immediately behind the horse is now a bottle store but in a 19th century painting of the same scene it is the village blacksmith shop.

Pic taken just inside of the Market looking towards North St [ right of the Golden Lion ] & left of, into the Romford Road.
We were in Newquay for only an hour or two on a Sunday morning, having flown in from London for a quick tour of Cornwall. Had time for a pastie, tho!
