This photo actually shows the "new" Point Loma Light station at the bottom of the hill. The "original" (or Old) Point Loma Lighthouse on the hilltop was used from Nov 1855 to March 1891. At that time the new light station was activated and is still in use -- although much upgraded. The relocation was due to fog and low clouds often obscuring the higher elevation light.
