sorrow's conversations

isnt a waste of county dollars...federal dollars in the Refuge's budget paid to pave the road. I preferred the unpaved road for it's character. It's a nice road and more people use it than a non-wildlife admirer might realize, but I would have preferred to see the dollars spent on improving the attractivness of the area to the wildlife rather than access by people

The location of this picture is now about 250 feet to the right (north east) of where it was in the previous Google sat photos.

Now Nov '09 the dunes are beginnng to build back up. Much faster than I expected. The dunes in this picture were appx. 7 feet tall. They were completely wiped out by Ike a year ago and now they are maybe 3 feet tall and coming back with vegitation growing on them too which will help to capture wind blown sand.

The current pictures on Google Earth (sat photos?) this rig is gone. I noticed that the locations of my pictures have shifted towards the east about a quarter mile. Some of my other pictures are shifted to the west 50 feet or so.

Thank you. I go there with my dogs in the car from Houston 70 miles away practically every weekend. Ike destroyed the dunes that were 6 to 8 feet tall with salt grass and other vegetation growing on them. I am glad to report that the dunes are re-building much faster than I ever expected. They are already around 3 to 4 feet tall with vegetation growing again.

This is a dangerous area several people a year wade fishing or kids caught in the undertow drown. When I was in high school back in the late 60's I swam across the river here numerous times never giving it a second thought. I would never consider the thought today! It sickens me how much trash people leave on the beach, beer bottles and cans, paper trash, used tires and even vehicles. It would suit me just fine if there was a $10 charge for a weekend pass to have vehicle access to Bryan beach. It would keep some of the trash out.

Thank you for the complement.

misty - this is further down the beach towards the river. Your neice probably got caught up in some piping and other metal debris left over from a house trailer dumped on the beach and burned. At least that's what it looked like to me although I suppose it could have been something else. Metal debris of some kind nevertheless. One of my other pictures was taken right where the do not dredge sign is.

I went fishing down at the mouth of the brazos and these birds were swimming to shore. We were still so they would get beside us and steal our bait. It was awsome especially for the kids.

Because the picture taken against the sinking sun at Katy westbound is blurry and out of focus, I could image the driver's state of mind. He or she was rushing to their home to get beer and hug their kids or dears after work. The picture was warmhearted. Thanks and drive safe. Former Houstonian lived in neighborhood of Katy.

Just a quarter mile inlaand from the beach it was blue sky and sunny!

This is a half mile stretch of the road that was completely wiped out by Ike.
