Greetings keithmik: Quite a different sort of contact with the Philippines than my family has... my grandfather was in the Philippines during WW-II. I do not frequently think about "that spot on the map". So nice to find your post in the forum. Blessings, PM
There is no trail above secret beach. Much of Matinloc Island has steep slope and rugged rock edges, which I do not recommend to climb. It is very risky, and to think that help is very far from the main town of El Nido.
Keithmik, we have our own boat and we were accompanied during that trip by the official photographer of Mayor Hagedorn. If you plan to go up the river, you'll need to coordinate your visit with the Warden's Office at Iwahig Penal Colony so that his guards won't suspect you of "intruding." For a boat, try contacting Cissy Sarceda of Abanico Yacht Club (+63-928-7135397 although I'm not sure if this mobile is still in use). And since you seem to be familiar with Puerto Princesa, try contacting Mr. Alfred Sy of the Mayor's Office at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum for help in contacting the Iwahig Warden. Good luck.
