Saluti dall'Italia, james2012
It was built by the Canada Bread Co., built in 1911. There's some history on it in the West End Dumplings blog:
Built in 1882-83 as the Bathgate block by architects Barber & Barber. Later became Kelly Roberts Building.
Thanks for your comments. I personally love all the old blocks in the West End, Wolseley & Downtown. It would be great to see this one renovated & turned into condos or something. These old buildings were built to last, but like anything else needed upkeep and maintenance, and this place just didn't get it. Luckily though, it and some of the West-End's other old blocks didn't burn, and we still have a lot of them left around today. I love checking them out on GE as well.
Visited here July 2009 while on vacation from Canada.

Very nice. The sky looks magnificent contrasting with the red bricks. Is Tim Horton's across Portage or the Hamburger Factory?
I lived at 121 Kate St, just behind the Bannatyne Apts from 1945-1966. I went to school with Kurt Winters who co-wrote some of the songs on the album So Long Bannatyne. Kurt was a great guitar player.
