"The arsenal had five or six cells and in front of them there was a wide balcony supported by thick beams of raw wood. It was there that we slept. Below there were arched vaults where they pulled the boats ashore. Fishnets were spread on the balustrade of the balcony. We would go to sleep and listen to the sea enter the vaults and the noise it made on the pebbles was like lullaby. There were old icons in the arsenal and a candle burnt ceaselessly in front of them....."

Ο αρσανάς είχε πεντ' έξι κάβιες (κελλιά) αραδιασμένες και μπροστά είχε ένα χαγιάτι που ακουμπούσε σε κάτι δοκάρια από αγριόξυλα. Εκεί μέσα κοιμομαστε. Από κάτω είχε κάτι χαμηλές καμάρες και μέσα στις καμάρες τραβούσανε τις βάρκες. τα δίχτυα τα απλώνανε απάνω στα μπαρμάκια του χαγιατιού. Εκεί που κοιμόμαστε ακούγαμε από κάτω μας τη θάλασσα που έμπαινε μέσα στισ κάμαρες και κυλούσε τα χαλίκια και μας νανούριζε. Παλιά εικονίσματα ήτανε κρεμασμένα μέσα στον αρσανά κι έκαιγε ακοίμητο καντήλι.....
