I was at a marked Desert lily preserve so I assumed. I guess that's not a good idea. Thanks for the info. I didn't know. These were definitely on the dunes.
Believe it or not, that was taken Sep 30, 2007. That summer was one of the wettest on record in the Chisos Mountains, according to the lodge staff, making for an unusually green and flowery fall. This is on the Lost Mine Trail, and this patch of yellow flowers covered several acres. It was thick with honeybees and the hum was audible from several hundred feet away. The temperature at this spot was in the low 70's but down at the Rio Grande it was 100F.
