From the Maah Daah Hey Trail, one can take a couple of side spurs called the Ice Caves Trail and the Aspen Trail, and explore the small sandstone caves here. But those who do so should remember this is prime rattlesnake habitat.

The river in this photo is the northern boundary of the Ponderosa Pine Area of the Little Missouri National Grassland. It is the only native ponderosa forest in North Dakota, comprising perhaps a couple dozen square miles. There is public access to the eastern side of the forest at the USFS Burning Coal Vein campground.

The camera was not tilted...the high winds on this ridge "train" the evergreen trees to lean eastward.

I no longer exhibit at art fairs, nor take the time to do photo contests...but this image seems to be a good seller. Even if it was not, it is gratifying to see so many people viewing it online! This is a bit of God's country that few get to see in person.

The bur oaks have an amazing emerald color when they leaf out in the spring...and in the fall, the aspens brighten the place up with their gold hues.
