The photographer has taken this photograph while standing on the public footpath that crosses the field in the foreground. The field is designated as open access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, giving public access on foot to the entire field. The field is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is definitely not private property.
The Glastonbury canal, opened in 1833, gave Glastonbury a link with the sea. It's use was limited, however, as the peat banks used to swell up restricting passage. 21 years later it was replaced by the Highbridge - Glastonbury railway.
This was part of Fisons PLC administration block at the Meare peat factory. This particular building was home to the Somerset Levels Project archaeologists. Fisons moved out some time ago and the whole lot of wooden buildings has now burnt down.

This wooden building was part of Fisons PLC peat factory (the canteen). Fisons left some while ago and the whole lot has now burnt down.
