I started work here in 1961 as a Junior Operator. It was still called Colvilles then before it became British Steel. When I started,I first had to do 6 weeks at Mossend Engineering Works in Bellshill then 6 weeks at Coatbridge Technical College before I actually entered Clydebridge on the 13th November,1961.You had to do 6 weeks in all different departments. My first dept. was the Test House which was at the opposite end of the mill.I can remember them building the 4high mill as one of my 6 weeks was office boy to the contractors. It opened in 1963.

ibrox and hampden are the only stadiums in glasgow with a 5 star rating. and as for the rest of the stadiums in scotland there a joke, there only is ibrox or parkhead. hampden is a shitehole. celtic fans are a joke there team is the only team possibly in the world to have a sex scandal above there name. and jock stein there greatest ever manager who wasn't even elected on to there board because he was a protestant. and until recently they have been wearing roman catholic crosses on there shirt to mark famine day, something that they never even knew existed until people started to tell them to go home because they bang on about the i.r.a. and how much they love Ireland, and hate all things British. and for the idiot who's talking about Manchester. have u got a clue about what your talking about. yous sing pro i.r.a. songs people who fucking bombed Manchester to peices. SCUM.

hey ceegee
this is not the Halfway you are thinking of - this area is to the east of Cambuslang. I think there will probably be a few photos on here for Halfway in Cardonald, if you lived there before they built the Moss Heights flats and later Tarfside Oval flats, it probably will look quite different these days! Hope you find what you are looking for.

As a boy living nearby my bedroom window looked over to the Clydebridge works. On dark nights the sky went bright red and there was a loud rumble each time the furnaces were tapped. As a young teenager I visited the works one night. It was very dark inside apart from the blindingly bright furnaces when the door was opened. As a 12 year old I thought this must be like Hell! When steelmaking stopped it was so quiet I couldn't sleep!
