Hi Richard,

Nice to see that you have something like that over in the northern hemisphere. My family came from Holland some years after the war, & I were born in ChCh ages ago.

Probably like Steven Harris, I'm looking at the area that you put the icon on, too - as much for a chance to see (via computer, I'll admit) some of the UK & the some for other places too. I've lived & worked in Australia for 18 years before coming back here some 12 years ago.

And like you, I like to take photographs too, but there is nothing of mine on Google earth as yet.

Cheers from Christchurch!

EXCELLENTS SOUVENIRS DE CE LIEU, TANT POUR LA COTE AVEC SES ROCHERS ET SES OISEAUX QUE POUR LE PUB "MARSDEN GROTTO",AVEC SA BIERE,DRAUGHT OU BROWN ALE, ET LES FLECHETTES. I'll never forget this place where we spent great moments with Fred, Acker and Harry. Jean-Claude Boudinet.

The Local County Council is planning to build a road right through this landscape - see Google. The UK Government is currently (early 2009) considering whether to fund it.

I like your idea of displaying pictures of places of interest in the area you are looking at. As concerns this picture - what you see is a stave church, moved from somewhere in the area and the valley adjacent to Lillehammer. The church was later reassembled at an open air museum in Lillehammer - the most famous open air museum in Norway. The name of the open air museum is "Maihaugen" (observe spelling.) The Norwegian name for "church" is "kirke" (observe spelling) Best regards, Svein Tore Aurud
