This is one of the two "Rainbow Tunnels". In the Summer of '66 when Flower Children were coming to San Francisco, a Cal DOT manager responsible for tunnel maintenance had a few buckets of paint of various colors left over from other jobs. He laudably joined in the spirit of the times and instructed his men to paint these rainbows over Highway 101. Even more incredibly, the rainbows have been maintained through thick and thin for over 40 years.
Thank you to whomever helped me with the location. I look forward to seeing some better satellite imagery in this area.
Thank you George. I give my father complete credit for all the night shots.
Is there an interesting story behind this monument?
This is an absolutely beautiful picture. It is also avery typical picture of the way the fog rolls in off the Pacific in coastal Northern California. Thank you.
Thanks for the correction Conan Guard!
I had the same idea that these pyramids are very similar to the one on the back of a dollar bill. The one without a top is like the Pyramid with the eye above it.
You are right about that, but at least jgibso1 got it the right way up.
