Nice row of houses, and interesting explanations. In Germany, we have the same effects, in particular in the former Eastern part. ++++ Jürgen sends you his greetings from Frankfurt-upon-Main, Germany

This is a 1956 Ford. It even says that on the back window! I guess the owner is proud of it.

This is all very interesting. I'm glad to hear the local history events are popular. It's good to get kids outdoors and away from their screens. Maybe I can catch one if I'm passing through in the summer.

From my understanding this was not an island till after 1865. It was a narrow spit of land which caused a terrific bend in the river that was originally attached to the north shore of the river and a part of Henrico County. Union troops began the Dutch Gap Canal to straighten the river and avoid confederate batteries on the south shore of river at the bend. However the war ended and the straightening of the river was not completed till after the war. The canal supposedly followed a protective ditch dug by Thomas Dale in early colonial times. As for the newly rebuilt City of Henricus, I think it has progressed a good bit since you and I photographed it. I need to revisit it soon.
