MaxFarrar's conversations

let it rest in peace...

Thanks for your picture. Bill Bryson looked for this site when he was writing 'Down Under' (Black Swan, 2000) and couldn't find it. He talked to a woman reporter from the Bingara 'Advocate', but she couldn't help him. As she said to him though: All that was different about Myall Creek was that white people were punished for it...Anyway, you wouldn't be able to move in this country for memorials if you tried to acknowledge [all the massacres].

If the world to themselves could have selected her father, she would have chosen Nelson Mandela.

also a nice scene. I suppose this is the Burr Trail one may see here left on the dune...

We enjoyed a nice break in that Boulder Mesa Restaurant just below that point.

cheers, michael

Max, that is a nice row of that Sugarloaf mountain. My wife and I came along in May from Long Canyon and enjoyed that drive along that pertrified dunes.

Cheers, michael

John: Well, I went out there a month ago. There are lots of sliding fist-sized stones on the playa, with many parallel tracks. Fortunately or unfortunately it is very easy to drive almost any vehicle onto the dry lakebed. Most of the sliding stones are over on the NW side of the lake. The stone tracks are somewhat mixed up with tire tracks.

Jens, it is indeed a monster of a tree! I would like to go back!

Best regards,

This was not necessarily a "peace camp" if you were among the Kansas settlers who had been murdered by Black Kettle's war parties. There are two sides to this story, like there usually are to most controversial ones.

Really great picture Helen ! I like it and put it in my museum.
