I believe this photo is misplaced as I think it is actually a photo of Capel Island off Knockadoon Head and should therefore be further east.

This is not the name of Ventry beach in Gaelic, rather it translates as "the head of the beach".

As I understand it Ventry is the english pronounciation of two gaelic words which actually mean "beautiful beach".
