L'Acquedotto dei Benedettini fu un'opera in pietra e terracotta di grande estensione per lunghezza. Collegava i bacini idrici etnei con il monastero di città e fu ultimato verso la fine del 1500. Resti della fabbrica persistono presso il parco Gioieni (l'arcata ritratta in questa foto), presso piazza I Viceré, presso la sede della Segreteria degli Studenti della Facoltà di SS. della Formazione dell'Ateneo catanese di via Ferri e in Piazza Montessori. Altri ruderi vennero distrutti dall'eruzione del 1669. Quell'evento spinse i monaci a sfruttare le risorse idriche della città, realizzando un profondissimo pozzo all'interno del loro convento.
