The intake tower is situated on the south bank of the Gariep Reservoir at Oviston, approximately 19 km upstream of the dam wall. Seen from above, the intake tower is shaped like a four-leaf clover with each leaf containing an inlet gate - all at different levels. In this manner, water can be drawn from different levels to help control the water quality. Each of the four inlets can be sealed to allow complete de-watering of the tunnel for routine maintenance.

With a length of 82,8 km, the 5,35 m diameter tunnel is the longest continuous enclosed aqueduct in the southern hemisphere and the second-longest water supply tunnel in the world.

Lake Victoria Wetland, at the foot of the village of Mount Moreland, is the biggest roost site for Barn (European) Swallows visiting South Africa during summer. From their arrival in mid-October to their departure in mid-April, it is sometimes possible to witness up to 3 million of these tiny migratory birds an evening from the special viewing site in Mount Moreland . The swallows gather together about half an hour before sunset, and provide a soul-stirring sight as they fly in their vast numbers over the Lake Victoria Wetlands.

In short, in 1992 the Bronkhorstspruit City Council donated 6 hectares of land to the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order to be developed into a Chinese Buddhist, cultural and educational complex. The main temple is designed according to traditional Chinese temple architecture. Words do little justice to this awe inspiring construction.

These granite rocks/boulders are about 50m high, and are in memory of Stevenson Hamilton. He played a fundamental role in the success of the now famous Kruger National Park.

Major James Stevenson-Hamilton (October 2, 1867 - December 10, 1957) born in Ireland was the eldest of 9 children and heir to a family title and home at Fairholm, by Larkhall in Scotland. He is considered the father of the Kruger National Park, in South Africa.

James was known as Skukuza, a Shangaan name meaning either " he who sweeps clean" or "he who turns everything upside down", by his staff at Kruger National Park. Later in 1936 the main rest camp's name was changed from Sabie Bridge to Skukuza to honour him.
