This picture shows the real 39 steps where John Buchan played as a child. They are now badly worn away by the elements. A local artist painted these steps ('The 39 Steps') oil on canvas and it was on display in the Harboumaster's House at Dysart. As a resident in the area from the age of 3 until a teenager I would love to have that painting but someone bought it.
